One of my favourite artists is the Scottish painter, Alison Watts OBE FRSE RSA. Alison came to national attention while still at Glasgow College of Art when she won the 1987 Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery.
Inspired by the beautiful fabrics in old masterpieces, by artists such as Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867), she paints huge canvases of folds in pieces of fabric. Sometimes these are patterned, but very often they are simply white. The National Galleries of Scotland welcome you to a week of art-inspired ideas. They recommend that you take a breather from homeschooling and zoom meetings and delve into their programme of activites, films and fun for all ages. Stay home, stay safe and enjoy some life-affirming art.
